The Amnesia of A Translator Hurts Readers

[snub vs snob]:1)이 번역자가 이 부분을 우리말로 옮기고 있을 당시 전날의 술이 덜 깨었기 때문일까요? 아니면, 돋보기를 사용하지 않아서 글자가 제대로 보이지 않아서였을까요? snub이라고 분명히 씌어있는데 역자는 snob의 의미로 옮기고 있는 것입니다. 2)영어는 관계입니다. 그 관계는 바로 옆이나 바로 앞에서만 존재하는 것이 아닙니다. 여기에서 보는 바와 같이 5쪽 앞에도 있는 것입니다.

In rainy days whenever I hit the road for an outside journey, my wife at the door throws a worried glance at the umbrella at my one hand and my face alternately, and doesn't fail to remind me to take it home safe and sound, saying, "Don't leave it somewhere else!" But vows of company are almost always repudiated.


2)Granted, amnesia of translators is irresponsible to original writers, dangerous to their fame, burdensome to the publishers and hurtful to the readers. The translator has got it wrong. His mistake has been caused by his amnesia. He has forgotten that Protagonist Bill Gross had been disproved and talked back by "the cognoscenti of TED" held in the year of 1998.


3)The translator has bungled the version job by mistaking the word 'snub' to mean the word 'snob' and naturally prevaricated. Why has he done that? Was he having a hangover? Or, was he not able to find his magnifying glass? I take a pity on him, indeed.


4)The English language is relationships. English is the language of relationships. In other words, you should hold on to the loops and knots of relationships. The point is that the relationships are not just immediate but sometimes remote. In this case, the expression of 'snubbed' is related to the content of the two paragraphs on page 111 under the subtitle of An Inauspicious Inauguration 1.


5)The adjective 'pure' is not identical to the meaning of the adjective 'naive.' You should take note of the shade of meaning between words, phrases and statements. When you say that somebody is pure about something you refer to a specific behavior of the man or woman in a very positive and favorable manner. However, when you mention somebody's behavior as naive, you are disparaging the person in a sarcastic manner with your tongue in cheek.
